The Reds Family Football Tour visits The Home of Football

18/04/2019

Thirty years is such a long time.

The events of April 1989 changed so many lives. Families and friends lost loved ones. The aftermath left scars on all involved. These events made the unity stronger between Liverpool supporters. This month, officially 30 years since Hillsborough, The Reds Family Football Tour are commemorating this by undertaking a walk from Nottingham Forest, their opponents in the 1989 FA Cup Semi Final to Anfield via Hillsborough.

Today we welcomed them to The World’s Oldest Football Club, from their starting point today at Nottingham Forest. Their route will take in 30 football grounds, one for every year. This will be a route of 265 miles undertaken by 36 walkers. Their core teams will be filled with Reds from all round the country emphasising how the love of a football club brings together people from all walks of life and all locations. Liverpool Football Club has a massive fanbase from all over the world. Regardless of where they hail from, they are all members of the Reds Family. This solidarity and kinship has continued, even grown in the 30 years since Hillsborough. “You’ll Never Walk Alone” is much more than a song to Reds.

Given that the ethos of their event is how Reds fans stuck together through great challenge following the events of 30 years ago, they also want to support other members of the Merseyside community. They will be raising funds for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital as part of this event. Alder Hey Children’s Charity have been supporting children and their families for many years. The aim is to raise £10,000 to help them. Alongside this, they will also look to collect food parcels for the foodbanks supported by both Liverpool and Everton Football Club. There may be rivalry on the football field between Merseyside’s two teams but when it comes to supporting Foodbanks, both clubs stand together.
