Match Report
Sheffield welcomed Parkgate FC to The Bright Finance Stadium, with both teams missing key players due to being cup-tied , suspensions or injuries. Gate’ were missing the influential Gavin Allott and Matt Outram, whilst Club had Pete Davey, Steve Hawes, Daz Winter and Gavin Smith all on the sidelines.
Sheffield started a little slowly and in the first couple of minutes Parkgate could have snatched an early lead, Kearney saving well on two occasions.
Clun started to get a hold on the game and Copnell shot wide when in on goal on three occasions, whilst the visiting keeper Copley saved well from Lowton and Pwell. Club had two penalty appeals turned down with fouls on Powell on both occasions.
Midway through the half an injured Kearney had to be replaced by Haystead in the Sheffield goal.
The second period was 5 minutes old when Copnell drove home from 10 yards out to settle Sheffield’s nerves and the lead was increased on 67 minutes when Darren Holmes ran through from midfield and slotted the ball home.
Sheffield made two further substitutions and one of them, Matt Roney made the game safe on 76 minutes when he smashed the ball home from a tight angle to mark his return to the team.
The game ended 3-0 to Sheffield but it has to be said that Parkgate put up one hell of a battle and can take great credit from the match.
Sheffield march onto their 4th Senior Cup Final in the last 4 seasons and will play Worksop Town at Hillsborough on Thursday 8th May in what should be a cracking, well supported finale to the season.
