Two new faces at Club
Jordan Broadbent has ended his first week in charge at The World’s First Football Club by making two very important signings on the eve of Saturday’s trip to Romulus.
First up is an experienced head, as Stocksbridge captain and left back Ben Turner (pictured above with Richard Stirrup) makes a trip across the steel city to join the S18 outfit, who will be a familiar face to regular Club followers having faced Sheffield FC earlier in the season.
“He’s a player we have been after for a while,” said Broadbent, “we believe he can develop a partnership on the left with Jinky (James Gregory) that will excite the supporters.”
Also joining the squad in time for Saturday’s game is teenage midfield star Michael Onovwigun – a first year professional at Chesterfield FC - who has joined on a 28 day loan, having joining the Spireites at the start of the season from Brentford.
Both are expected to go straight into the squad tomorrow in the first of two consecutive Saturday trips to the Coles Lane 3G pitch, and Club will be hoping to build on Tuesday’s home win.
Broadbent was pleased to get his tenure off to a winning start with a 2-1 victory over Kidsgrove Athletic on Tuesday that ended a run of three defeats on the trot.
He said; “We tinkered with the selection after last Saturday’s defeat and got a reaction from the boys. We passed the ball really well we just didn’t take out chances, sometimes you just have to be happy with the three points and win ugly.”
Looking ahead to the trip to Romulus said “It will be difficult on the 3G pitch, although it’s the same for both teams they will be more used to it than us.”
