Sheffield Host Welsh Premier League Champions This Week-End
The ladies first team are honoured to host Swansea City FC Ladies who visit the Home of Football Stadium this Saturday afternoon.
After three matches against FA Women's Premier League opponents, Sheffield FC Ladies ramp up their preparations for the new FA Women's Super League season with a friendly against the reigning Welsh Premier Women's League Champions.
Zoe Johnson's side have put the minutes in and enjoyed three solid results already, but will be looking for a more complete team performance against what will be their toughest opponents so far during pre-season preparations.
Swansea City, meanwhile, are preparing for the qualifying round of the UEFA Women's Champions League, in what will be their third appearance in the competition. The Swans travel to Romania between August 22-28 where they will face ties against hosts Olimpia Cluj-Napoca, Scottish side Hibernian Ladies, and Ukrainian champions WFC Zhytlobud-2 Kharkiv for a place in the competition proper.
Swansea midfielder Sophie Hancocks said: “It feels great to be back, preparing for the Champions League. It’s something I’ve wanted for a long time and now it’s finally here, it feels surreal."
"As a team, we will be looking to challenge the other sides and make a good impression. We’re relishing the opportunity to hopefully gain a lot of experience to take into the new season and retain our league title.”
It will be Sheffield's second fixture against international opposition having played Celtic FC Women in February last year, and its a match that Zoe Johnson is looking forward to: "We're really grateful to Swansea City for travelling up to Sheffield this week-end, and we're anticipating an exciting afternoon against tough opponents."
"Its always nice to play against new teams and especially when it will provide us with a good challenge. Although we don’t know too much about Swansea City, we're expecting our sternest pre-season friendly yet with the side winning the Welsh Premier League last season and using this game to prepare for their upcoming Champions League fixture."
"Our own pre-season preparations are going well so far, and there's a great feeling within the group. We've brought a few new faces in, alongside moving some of our young development players through, which is something we've always been proud of doing as a club."
"I feel we'll have a great balance of youth and experience come the time season kicks off, and its now about us preparing the best we can, and there is no better way than games like this."
The fixture will also see the launch of the brand new Sheffield FC away shirt for the 2017/18 season sponsored by Classic Football Shirts - so get down to the ground to see this revealed on the day.
The match kicks off at 3pm at the Home of Football Stadium, Sheffield Road, Dronfield, S18 2GD. Tickets are priced just £3 for adults and £1 for children, all available on the day.
