Ladies Suffer Last Gasp Heartbreak at Home to Guiseley

In spite of a fantastic penalty save from Sheffield FC's Lauren Santoro, writes Oli Coultas, it was Guiseley AFC Vixens who returned home with all three points after a 2-1 win at the Home of Football.

A battling performance from Sheffield saw them go ahead just before the half-hour mark - Megan Tinsley crossing superbly from the left wing to the feet ofplayer of the match Ellie White, who took her time and calmly placed it past Vixens' goalkeeper Bethan Davies to put Sheffield one-nil up.

But the lead wasn’t to be taken in at the break.  A corner was swung into the box by Sophie Walton and met by Guiseley captain, Alarna Fuller, who headed home into the corner from close range.

Sheffield were reduced to ten players when goalkeeper Liz Hobson was given her marching orders following the award of a penalty for Guiseley. But there was to be further drama as substitute stopper, Lauren Santoro, saved Walton's spot kick.

In spite of Sheffield's efforts and chances, Guiseley nicked the win just minutes from time. Liv Auker playing a ball over the top of the defence to Ellie Casper who took a touch and shot past substitute ‘keeper Santoro to send the away side happy.
