Club Maltby Scholars so close to final glory
It was a case of so near but so far for the students of the Sheffield FC / Maltby Academy partnership, as they were one game away from a big finals’ day at Doncaster Rovers’ stadium, after losing in the semi-final of the U18 ESFA National Cup on Monday.
Our Scholars lost 4-0 in the Semi Final of the English Schools’ FA (ESFA) U18 Schools’ Cup away at the Thomas Telford school, from Telford and Wrekin, in a competition that over 400 Schools from across England entered.
The boys made it to the last 4 of the competition, having beaten The Fallibroome Academy (Macclesfield), St Aidan's (Harrogate), St Mary’s College (Hull) and King Edward VII (Sheffield) along the way, just missing out on the Final which will take place at Doncaster Rovers’ Keepmoat Stadium next week.
Matt Higgins, the Football Scholarship Head Coach was rightly proud of the progress; "This is a fantastic achievement from the lads to get so far in this competition and something for both Sheffield FC and Maltby Academy to be really proud of."
"It is the first time a representative team from MA have reached the Semi Final stage of the National Competition so please congratulate the boys if you see them around at any point. Hopefully we can go one better next season and win the Trophy and be National Champions."
