First Team vs. Stamford AFC (1 : 1)
Evo-Stik League First Division South
Sheffield grabbed a late point at the Home of Football, as they rescued a 1-1 draw against Stamford, writes Stuart James.
It was an uneventful first half, with neither side really getting on top, and chances being at a premium.
There was a controversial moment at the end of the first half, with Ryan Robbins tumbling in the box, however referee Kenwyn Hughes saw no contact and awarded the Daniels' striker a yellow card.
Stamford finally tested Steve Hernandez in the home goal in the second half, as Ollie Luto set up Jake Duffy with a clear opportunity the keeper did well to save.
At the other end substitute Matt Roney’s cross picked out Alec Denton, who’s shot somehow hit both posts before bouncing out.
The visitors took the lead on 81 minutes, as Ollie Brownhill capitalised on a defensive error and was left in acres of space and a one-on-one situation, to coolly slot under the keeper.
It should have been 2-0 moments later as Brownhill found himself unmarked with the ball and an empty net, but somehow conspired to trip over the ball and allow the defence to put it to safety, much to the amusement of the home support.
That was proved to be costly as in injury time Sam Hill was adjudged to have tripped Ollie Ryan in the box, with the defender harshly shown a red card, up stepped Alec Denton to send Sam Donkins the wrong way.
