First Team vs. Shaw Lane Aquaforce (1 : 4)

Sheffield FC crashed out of the Doodson Cup at the first hurdle on Tuesday night, writes Stuart James, as a catalogue of defensive mistakes saw them lose 4-1 at Shaw Lane Aquaforce.

The Ducks opened the scoring in the 11th minute, when Gibraltar International Adam Priestley broke down the left before crossing in a dangerous ball across the face of goal, and with Alfred Hammond's boots and legs under heaps of pressure there was little the debutant could do but steer the ball into his OWN-GOAL.

It became 2-0 just on the half hour mark, as an under-hit header from Yoan Benyahya left keeper Jamie Green scrambling for the ball, however THORNHILL was quickest to the ball and had the easy job of tapping the ball into the empty net.

Club continued to play positive football, but had very little to show for their efforts, with the closest coming from a Temi Raheem header from 20 yards out that struck the top of the bar.

Shaw Lane’s third came six minutes before the interval, a cross from the right by Bennett was only half dealt with by Green, allowing MORRIS to steal in at the back post to head home from close range.

The calamities continued after the break and a fourth goal came shortly after, Green miss-hit a clearance whilst out of his goal, the ball was returned with interest into the empty goal by MORRIS.

The most bizarre goal was saved till last from the hosts, as Mohamed Sabo – under no pressure whatsoever – passed the ball into his OWN GOAL from 30 yards out, making it 4-1 and summing the whole game up.
