vs. Retford United (3 : 1)
WVH North Midlands Development U19 Football League
Russ Eagle's Under 19s Development side looked somewhat rusty on Thursday evening, however they were still too sharp for visitors Retford United, as they came from behind to win 3-1 at the Coach and Horses.
The Badgers were a much improved side from the one that had been beaten 7-0 by Sheffield at the start of the season at Cannon Park, and showed that improvement on 15 minutes when they took the lead, as Mason Lee was allowed time and space to slam home at the far post.
Midway through the half the home side levelled, as a ball into the mix was only half cleared by a defending header, with Matt Porter sending the ball back with interest with a sweet left foot volley.
Club took the lead ten minutes later, Iren Wilson cutting in from the left to unleash a fine shot into the far corner, with the keeper Brandon Clarke beaten all ends up.
The scoring was complete on 76 minutes, as Callum Walton went on a typical mazy run through the defence, before finishing with a quality strike.
Retford started to come into their own, and could easily have pulled back at least once, with the first chance coming from Liam Jepson who fired over a route one ball from Brandon Clarke.
Jepson had two more efforts that were even closer, the first hitting the near post having beaten Ben Woodcock with a shot from a narrow angle, and in injury time hitting the same post with a sweet volley that looked almost certainly to end up bulging the net.
