Match Report
Sheffield moved up to 4th place in the table with a resounding 4-1 victory against lowly Kidsgrove Athletic at the Bright Finance Stadium.

For Sheffield, Matt Lowton returned in defence, with Gav Smith and Steve Hawes unavailable through suspension and Martin Kearney replaced the rested Haystead in goal..

Club started the game extremely well with Vill Powell and Stewart Copnell looking dangerous in attack. Copnell shot at the visiting keeper twice early on and Pete Davey had a dangerous cross go unchallenged in the middle.

Club took the lead on 10 minutes when a delicious Chris Dolby cross was headed home at the second attempt by Asa Ingall.

Kearney made two decent saves to keep the score in Sheffield’s favour.

On 25 minutes the referee gave a penalty when Copnell was brought down in the box, however, after consulting with his Linesman he then changed his mind and gave a corner, much to the team and crowds dismay.  From the resulting Paul Smith set piece corner, Tom Jones headed home to make it 2-0 to Sheffield.

Club settled the issue on 30 minutes when good work down the right saw the ball fall to Vill Powell who slotted home his 13th goal of the campaign.

Early in the second period Club had to bring on Townsend for Asa Ingall who had taken a knock in the first half.

Athletic had to make a change too and also reverted to a 4x4x2 formation and lively top scorer Lennon pulled a goal back on 53 minutes.

A delightful right sided situation on 59 minutes saw Dolby finish off a great passing move, beating the keeper with a 15 yard drive to give Club a 4-1 lead.

Jamie Smith and Rob Ward were brought on late on, with Smith going close on two occasions.

Martin Kearney made two decent saves with the score at 3-1 and his contribution should not go un noticed.

Club to be far looked strong against a now safe Kidsgrove side and it was clear Sheffield had benefited from the 4 day rest.

Next up is Gresley Rovers at home on Saturday.
