Match Report
Sheffield fell to a 4-1 defeat at Kidsgrove Athletic.

Club were playing their 5th match in 12 days and were without the influential Asa Ingall through a family bereavement as they faced a Kidsgrove side that even though second bottom, had won their last two and scored 10 in the process.

For the first 10 minutes Sheffield were on the back foot and it was Athletic who opened the scoring with a drove from Shotton from outside the box.

Club then controlled the remainder of the half but struggled to create any clear cut chances.

It took until he half jour mark to draw level when a Daz Winter drive was only parried to the feet of Rob Ward who tapped in.

Club went 2-1 behind in the 41st minute when a cross found a home striker unmarked and he nodded home.

The second period saw a leg weary Sheffield side concede twice when a drive went under Haystead’s body and a cross found its way home.

Club never really looked like causing too may problems and in the last period of matches it all seemed a game to many.

Sheffield Manager Dave McCarthy commented’’ I probably ought to have freshened the side up a little more what with all that matches we have played recently and the traveling they have done. It was difficult for the lads because as we all know goals change games and they got a second right on the stroke of half time against what was a decent Kidsgrove team. We are still in a favourable play off position with 9 more matches to play. It wasn’t the best of performances, but we gave it our best shot and will continue to do so for the remaining 9 games.

I have to say, however, that the refereeing performance last night was just about the poorest I have seen in my 15 years in management. Although the referee's performance didn’t really influence the result too much, the referee’s performance on the night was incredibly bad and showed no feeling or understanding of the game. Both sides were staring at each other in amazement at times at how bad the referee actually was to both teams.

Next up for Sheffield is a trip to Cammell Laird this coming Saturday before we travel to Wales to play Colwyn Bay on Tuesday and play Kidsgrove at home on Thursday.
