Sheffield Groundsman Pete Bowden and his band of volunteer's worked wonders to get the pitch playable for this game against Gresley Rovers.
Manager Dave McCarthy brought back Danny Haystead in goal in place of Martin Kearney and Gav Smith returned to the bench. Steve Hawes remained suspended.
The first 15 minutes saw Sheffield on the front foot with Powell prominent up front for Sheffield. Copnell, his strike partner had two long range efforts go wide and Pete Davey almost nipped in on the back post to score. Chris Dolby had a volley well saved and Stewart Copnell almost scored after a run in on goal. DAZ Winter had a great chance to score with a header from a Paul Smith cross, but headed straight at the visiting Keeper.
Haystead was rarely troubled as Sheffield’s back four held firm.
Sheffield went onto the attack straight away in the second period but it took until 58 minutes to make the breakthrough. JAMIE Smith, on as a sub for Copnell, played the ball to Pete Davey and his lay back found Chris Dolby, who beat his marker and struck home with the aid of a slight deflection.
Haystead had to make a smart save from Ridgeway to keep the score in Sheffield’s favour.
Gav Smith came on for Dolby on 75 minutes and almost scored with his first touch, however, his run and shot ended with the ball in the stand.
Club made in 2-0 on 77 minutes when Jamie Smith ran 25 yards into the box and passed the ball home.
The game ended 2-0 and saw Sheffield close in on a play off place.
Next up in the League is a trip to Belper Town on Tuesday.
