Match Report
After making good progress in the FA Youth Cup and NM U19 League Cup it was time for the Academy Side to get some success in the league and this they did in fine style at Arnold Town. The side got off to the best pssible start when in the second minute Paine fired the ball home from close range from a corner. The lead was extended on 13 minutes when Elliott Simpson caught the hiome defenders nappng with a well flighted free kick; the ball found Paine who was unmarked and he scored past the keeper at a tightish angle to give Sheffield a hold on the game. Sheffield looked dangerous each time they attacked and it took a good stop from Arnold's keeper to prevent Paine getting a quick hat trick and when the home side attacked Sheffield's defence was in good form and Lipka, Gelsthorpe and Jerrison were dealing with everything fair;y comfortably. Danny Beech and Danny Wood were fairly lively and creating openings for the front two of Morris and Paine; Josh Jones almost scored on the stroke of half time connecting with a corner kick. At half time it remained 2 - 0 to Sheffield; the second half started positively for the visitors with some good exchanges but Arnold were getting into the game as well and it was by no means one sided. Alex Morris received a good ball and made a smart turn in the area but was tackled just as he was about to shoot. Arnold went very close when Jones was robbed in midfield but no-one could get on the end of the cross. On 70 minutes Alex Morris was brought down in the area and Paine scored from the spot kick. Wood went close for Sheffield as they tried to extend the lead and Joel Purkiss, having replaced the hardworked Morris executed a good spin and shot on target but too near the keeper. Jon Askew and Karl Fox came on towards the end of the game and Askew received a great pass off Fox and struck the ball fiercely at goal which nearly went in off a defender.

A good result against hardworking opponents and hopefully something to build on in the next few weeks.
