Match Report
Sheffield made the trip to Alsager with 9 players on the injury list, Haystead, Kearney, Davey, Boulter, Ingall, Copnell, Dolby, Foulkes and Paul Smith all out. Tom Carney and Tom Carnell made the step up from the reserves and Vill Powell stepped down to a substitute role.
With only 1 minute on the clock Daz Winter and Jimmy McCarthy had a mild rough and tumble in the middle of the field and the referee sent both off, when to be fair a yellow card and a talking to would have sufficed.
On a terrible surface and with a completely flummoxed referee, it was Town who broke the deadlock in the 20th minute, when a cross-cum-shot from Bridge sailed over Holmshaw to give the home side the lead.
Club levelled on 37 minutes when Darren Holmes drove home from 22 yards out.
On 56 minutes a defensive mix up allowed Whittaker to put Town in the lead and this lead was increased on 74 minutes by a good finish from Budrys.
Club made substitutions with Carnell and Carney coming on to make their League debuts and Vill Powell replacing a tired looking Jamie Smith.
Club made it 3-2 on 82 minutes when Powell tapped in a Roney cross and in the final minute a wonderful curling free kick from Carney made the scores level.
Of all the performances this season this one summed up what the players are all about. This was the Sheffield teams 2nd game in two days, their 5th game in 8 days and 17th in the last six weeks and on a big pitch, against ten men and a team that had rested for 7 days to come back from 3-1 down in the manner they did was a superb achievement.
The draw meant Club finished a more than creditable 4th in the League and will play Stocksbridge Park Steels at home in the Play Off Semi final at The Bright Finance Stadium on Tuesday 29th April, 7.45pm kick off.
